Learn to view your own practice from a teacher’s perspective as we explore the oppositional forces at play in each Asana through partner work, deep listening and observation. We will look at methods of creating balance between these directions of energy flow in order to facilitate alignment from the inside out. Through the innumerable variations of the six body positions of forward bends, sidebends, backbends, twists, balances and inversions, we will bring about different states of transformation. Yogi Vishvketu In this workshop we will explore diverse pranayama practices for different purposes (physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing), design sequences for home practice and teaching, and learn about the theory of the 5 pranas and how it relates to yoga practice. You will have the opportunity to delve into kriya and pranayama practices that help to detoxify the body and the nadis, import prana, and allow you to cultivate personal power and calm awareness. Leslie Young Finding Balance: The Freedom of Discipline Vijnana Yoga, rooted in the Krishnamacharya lineage, is a holistic form of practice for mind, body and heart. The term Vijnana –refers to understanding from the inside, intuition, discernment and clarity through experience; it is one of the 5 koshas or sheaths that comprise us. Together we will explore: Sitting Meditation, Kriyas, Mudras, Pranayama, Tensegrity Repair Series, Asanas and Yoga Philosophy. Precision and flow create the balance in Leslie’s teaching. What weaves the whole practice together is awareness of the present moment. In meditation we will explore concentration and mindfulness, kriya practice will include uddiyana bandha, agnisara & nauli. Pranayama will focus on various ways to practice nadi shodana. The Tensegrity Repair Series, created by Gioia Irwin, is an excellent practice for restoring balance and maintaining a healthy core while being accessible to all levels. Our asana practice will play with balance, finding our center of gravity and keeping the mind fully engaged in our experience. Freedom is being present with “what is” without resistance. Friday June 4th 5:30pm-7:30pm Julia Mcabe With emphasis on breath, bandhas ("locks") and core specific practices, we will move through a vinyasa (flow) practice applying how to move from the core to the periphery with refined grace and confidence. Saskia Tait & Shahar Rabi This workshop will focus on the "Art of Honesty", which is the capacity to see "what is" from moment to moment without any manipulation or avoidance. Presence to the "I AM" and its dynamic energy brings about a natural and healthy change that transforms one's life without the usual, arduous effort. The presentation will demonstrate the need for "honesty poetry" (how honesty is poetry) and how the narrative we give to human experience can evoke innate wisdom and an existential experience of freedom and joy. We will explore an integrated view of the nature of the dynamic energy of the "I AM" and the necessity of keeping the mystery alive (not knowing, but being). Dashama Manipura is the fire of transformation, that comes from the core center of your Being- your Solar Plexus (3rd Chakra)- and when we ignite it through this vigorous and challenging yoga practice, you will be forever transformed. You will learn this nasal rinsing with saline and different herbs and aromas for various conditions: to reduce allergies, hay fever, insomnia, migraines, and to increase the absorption of prana! Christina Tottle In this magical exploration of life's greatest gift: LOVE, you will experience upper and mid back openers like you've never felt before. The "back" of the heart is where we store many of our earlier emotional tension from childhood, relationships and unmet expectations from life. Working with asanas, breath, visualization, and mantras we learn to release that which is not serving you to become more free to love and be loved, to share compassion, forgiveness, empathy and joy. Back bending will be emphasized in this class, as well as shoulder openers, neck stretching and self massage techniques. Saturday June 5th 10:30am-12:30pm Leslie Young Pranayama, one of the 8 limbs of yoga, feeds the energetic body. Pranayama is one of Leslie’s most passionate subjects. This class is designed to help people understand the mechanics of breathing, to bring heightened awareness to subtle aspects of the breath, understand the bandhas and their use in khumbaka while looking at the relationship between citta and prana. We will explore natural breathing, ujjayi, kapala bhati, and nadi shodana. Breathe and feel the truth of flow. Colleen Felgate Learn and use the principles of pilates and how they can expand your yoga practice. Tina James Hot Jivamukti sequences, keeps this class movin’ and shakin.’ The music is new but the practices are ancient. Expect the full jivamukti package of traditional music, meditation, bhakti, and challenging asana, with a taste of outrageousness. This is a Yoga class with a serious passion for life and love designed to get you out of your stuff and back into the groove. Saturday June 5th 1:00pm-3:00pm Saskia & Shahar As the path of yoga deepens and expands into life, practitioners inevitably encounter challenges associated with "afflictive" thoughts, emotions and experiences. This workshop will focus on the wisdom of these perceptions. We will explore how the teachings of yoga offer us insight into how to bring our "shadows", or those aspects of ourselves that we avoid or resist, into the light of awareness. We will introduce methods of working with shadow perceptions that utilize the chakra model to ensure that we are paying attention to all of the developmental stages of being (somatic, emotional, cognitive, relational, spiritual, integrational). Tanya Di Valentino Lets turn our worlds upside down with this fun, dynamic and hands-on exploration of inversions. Learn some key alignment principles to enhance your own experience and learn to catch some common misalignments that will help your students balance upside down with more ease and confidence. This workshop will also explore some fun and challenging transitions into and out of inversions through the avenues of arm balances, floating and pressing. The combination of Ether and Air form Vata, Fire and Water form Pitta and Water and Earth form Kapha. Ayurveda further categorizes each dosha into subtypes ( or subdoshas), depending upon their function and location. Marmas are portals into the multidimensionality of life. As junction points between consciousness and physiology, they provide a window into interchangeability of energy and matter. This workshop will explore how marma therapy supports and complements ayurvedic and yoga therapies, and we will all get an opportunity to experience the power of marma through learning a simple protocol. Sunday June 6th 10:30am-12:30am Feel Your Soulshine with Surya Namaskar Sun worshippers will enjoy this in depth study of the practice of Classical Surya Namaskar. We will explore three essential elements of form, energy and rhythm that comprise this 12-posture practice and their effects in relation the 5 koshas (sheaths) of our human experience. We will also learn the associated Vedic and Tantric bija (seed) mantras and integrate them into our practice. Participants will gain experience and ideas on how to lead a fun, well rounded and safe practice of108 sun salutations for their students. Sweat is an ancient form of self-healing, it burns karma, purifying body and soul. Sweat is holy water, prayer beads, pearls of liquid that release our past, anointing all your parts in a baptism by fire – Gabriel Roth The room is heated to approximately 40C degrees. The heat facilitates safer, deeper stretching, a de-toxifing sweat and a healthy glow. This is a well-rounded series that incorporates breathing exercises and static postures to balance strength and flexibility, physically and mentally. You will see and feel immediate results and build a solid foundation to navigate from in all aspects of your life. Systematically you will work the entire body, concentrating on restoring the health of every organ, bone, joint, muscle, ligament, tendon, blood vessel, nerve and gland. Regular practice promises prevention of dis-ease and countless benefits to those suffering from sport related injury, stress, back/knee pain, scoliosis, insomnia, skin disorders and poor digestion. This class is ideal for beginners and suitable for all levels of student over the age of 10 years (it is not recommended for children who's sweat glands have not developed yet). Not recommended for pregnant women unless you have been practicing in a heated environment regularly for at least 6 months - 1 year prior to becoming pregnant. Yogi Vishvketu In this workshop we will explore sound and vibration, in particular through Brahmaree pranayama (the bumble bee sound) both with asanas, and seated. We call this practice Hatha-Raja Yoga – it is especially good for relieving stress, insomnia, balancing the wellbeing hormones in the brain, and opening the upper chakras. Vishva ji will tell stories and present mantras from his CD, Sounds of Anand Prakash Yoga Ashram, which are Sanskrit affirmations and mantras that can be used for upliftment both in contemplations/meditations and throughout the day!
